AN INTIMATE WINTER WEDDING IN NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE WITH DANIKA & SEBASTIAN

Danika & Sebastian were married in Newcastle Register Office and then drove the short distance to the Malmaison on Newcastle Quayside for their reception. With only a ten minute drive from my door, weddings don't get any more local than this for me.

The weather was dry, with bright sunshine, but it was perishingly cold. We felt it most standing on the Millennium Bridge with the wind whipping down the Tyne. Danika and Sebastian were very brave, though, so we managed to make the most of the brief time we had for portraits.

It's always tough to take portraits in the middle of the day, especially without a cloud in a sunny sky, so I had to get creative with backlighting and playing with harsh shadows. With guests arriving from international destinations as the day progressed, it also made our group shots tricky to arrange!

The Malmaison on Newcastle's Quayside is a venue I know well. I photographed Katy-Rose & Chris' wedding at Malmaison which was subsequently featured on Brides Up North.

Danika & Sebastian gave me a thank you gift of Exotic Caribbean Mountain Pride traditional cocoa. This is made from Trinidad and Tobago cocoa beans, shaped into a pod. You then grate the chocolate, boil and strain it, then add milk and sugar to make a drinking chocolate. It's full of spices such as nutmeg, cloves, bay leaves and orange peel, so it is a wonderfully complex flavour, and the perfect drink to round off a relaxed and intimate wedding day.

I do love smaller weddings like this, especially in the winter time, or midweek, outside of the busier wedding days. For that reason I set up a special discount of 30% on my wedding packages for couples getting married between November and March and/or Monday to Thursday.
