Xtraordinary Photography Studio shoot
I went along to a studio night at Xtraordinary Photography on Sunday night. Chris Ord was our genial host and he put on a good night for us photographers wanting to experiment with studio lighting.
We had two models and three set ups to play with and I think it's safe to say that we all enjoyed the night.
Our first set-up was against a white-painted brick wall with one main light and a fill light fitted with a large rectangular softbox. It gave us some nice shadows to play with and suited a black and white conversion.
Set-up two was a complete experiment. Chris had woven string around several posts and we had the chance to get our models tangled up!
We finished off with a chance to shoot head shots using coloured gels to provide a vibrant background colour.
I found that different colours changed the mood of the photograph significantly. A soft box above Sophie and three reflectors at waist level gave a wonderful quality to the light.
So a big thanks to our models Sophie and Nick, and of course to Chris for hosting us. He is always running workshops and other events, and even when he isn't he hires out his studio from just £10 per hour, so I'm sure I'll be using his facilities again soon!
