A sun drenched autumn pre-wedding shoot in Newcastle with Izzy & Rob

When choosing a location for our pre-wedding shoot, I suggested to Izzy and Rob that they choose a location that meant something to them. I’d far rather discover a new location with a couple as I think it helps put them at ease and it gets my creative brain whirring. Izzy and Rob chose the Havannah Nature reserve, which is where they walk their dog. Eze became the star of the show, photobombing our shots and posing like a boss!

Havannah Nature Reserve lies to the west of Hazlerigg, about 5 miles north of Newcastle. Its official name is Havannah and Three Hills Nature Reserve; the three hills are slag heaps from Hazlerigg Colliery which closed in 1964.

It is a diverse area with woodlands, meadows, scrub, grazed fields, marshlands and ponds. Most of the wet areas are a consequence of subsidence from previous mining activity. It’s one of the few ‘urban’ sites in the UK that has a red squirrel population.

We were blessed with some gorgeous sunshine towards the end of our couples session, and combined with the autumn foliage we got some lovely colours. I now can’t wait for the wedding day in just a couple of weeks time.
