Northside Farm Northumberland wedding venue
Northside Farm is an exclusive use wedding venue, set within 400 acres of farm land in the picturesque Northumberland countryside. It was a venue I’d heard great things about and jumped at the chance to shoot Tash and Adam’s wedding there over the summer.
Ralph and Olivia Lockey call Northside Farm home. Ralph farmed the adjacent land since leaving school. Back in 2010 Ralph and Olivia added six Glamping pods to the farm. These are the charming wooden structures you can see in the photo below. They went on to convert a stable into wet rooms and a kitchen, and then added four more Glamping pods.
It wasn’t long before couples began to enquire about weddings at Northside Farm. Following three years of hard work Ralph converted the barn into a space suitable for a wedding ceremony.
The very first wedding that took place at Northside Farm was Ralph and Olivia’s!
The popularity of Northside Farm as an alternative wedding venue grew very quickly. It’s truly a family business (they now have three daughters) and this genuine warmth, honesty and directness shines through on every wedding day.
Weddings at Northside Farm
One of the best aspects of having your wedding at Northside Farm is that it is an exclusive use venue, meaning you won’t bump into another bride or groom, or conference attendees wandering into your festivities. It caters to a wide range of alternative weddings and the husband and wife owners are very flexible in realising your dream wedding idea. It’s obviously perfectly suited to farm weddings, and fits well with festival weddings, as well as rustic outdoors lovers and low key intimate couples. It’s ideally suited for relaxed, laidback couples.
The Barn is where the main action happens, from the ceremony to the meal to the party. It’s a lovely airy space, with exposed wooden beams, rough stone walls and ancient flagged floor (which has underfloor heating). It can hold up to 150 people for a wedding ceremony and 250 for a wedding reception. I’d go a little under those official numbers to ensure comfort for your guests.
There is accommodation onsite for up to 50 people (5 per Glamping Pod). You can also set up your own tents, or get in a local company called Northern Star Teepees to provide more accommodation. The Orchard is littered with fire and BBQ pits for that festival feel.
This is a great idea if you’d like to extend your wedding celebrations over more than one day.
Wedding photography at Northside Farm
For any photographer who, like me, favours adventurous, brave couples who’d rather wear hiking boots than high heels, Northside Farm is a perfect wedding photography location. As long as the weather is dry, guests will naturally congregate outside. There is a little stream running along the bottom of the Orchard, which is also studded with trees, and this makes a lovely couples portrait location. Further afield there is a small pond, fields full of crops and thicker woodland to explore.
The big skies in all directions are a great backdrop if you are lucky with the sunset. The interiors are light and airy so this is a natural light wedding photographer’s dream.
