A Northumberland sunset couples session with Lynsey & Alex
We had glorious weather for Lynsey and Alex's pre-wedding sunset session at Collywell Bay. The sun was shining, the air was warm and the sea was remarkably calm.
Collywell bay is dominated by a sandstone sea stack, known locally as Charley's garden, that is set in a small bay of protected Special Scientific Interest and which is disintegrating substantially. Cormorants and other seabirds wheeled around the still air as we clambered over rocks to find the best light.
The calm can be deceptive - this bay is extremely dangerous and lives have been lost. The tide sweeps round quickly and strongly to the North side of the stack, so I planned our shoot carefully around the tides.
Lynsey and Alex are real outdoorsy people and got engaged at Redworth Hall. They love the Northumberland coast and Druridge Bay is one of their favourite places. It's one of my favourite places too and I have photographed a couple of engagement shoots there:
Lynsey has gone to Collywell Bay since being a child and loves rock pooling or just going for a stroll or a sit on the rocks looking out to sea. I much prefer photographing couples in a meaningful place to them as I think that feeling comes through in the resulting images.
Add in Lynsey & Alex's own quirky style and the amazing light and I couldn't help but capture some beautiful photographs.
