An Alice in Wonderland themed wedding at Wallsend Hall with Jen & Joe

An amazing thing happened at Jennifer and Joe's wedding. We headed off to the bridge in the grounds of Wallsend Hall to take some portraits just after the ceremony.

Jen said 'I wish our dog Bailey could have been here.' Who should come bounding toward the bridge at that very moment?

Bailey of course.

By complete coincidence he was being walked by the friend who was looking after him for the day.

Some things are just meant to be!

Jen and Joe had an Alice in Wonderland themed wedding and you can see inspiration from the book in so many of the photographs below. From the cake, to the seating plan, to the table decor, it added a whole new layer of things to look for in my photographs of the day.

Wallsend Hall is a quirky venue, full of unusual rooms with interesting light. It's a Georgian grade II listed building set in 9 acres of garden and woodland with a small river running through.

I experimented a lot with that light at this wedding, especially during bridal prep. This is the ideal time to experiment at a wedding because there is little time pressure and you aren't locked into a series of 'must have' moments.

I always look for reflections in mirrors, glass and other shiny surfaces in order to get a totally natural expression. Seconds before we left for the ceremony, I caught Jen in a moment of quiet reflection. (See what I did there? 😂)

Check out the photograph of the girls playing hide and seek. This was one of my favourite photographs of the year and it makes me laugh every time I see it. She was the last one found too!
