Dale Farm Yorkshire wedding venue
I mainly work with adventurous and creative couples so I often visit unusual and DIY wedding venues. My home patch is Northumberland, Yorkshire and the Lake District so farms are an increasingly popular choice of wedding venue. Dale Farm is located in Hunmanby, near Filey, in North Yorkshire. I was introduced to this Yorkshire wedding venue by Katy and Tom, whom I met at Sarah & Bry's wedding at Ellingham Hall in Northumberland.
Bought by Liz and Paul in 2012, Dale Farm offers holiday accommodation, activities such as walking and cycling holidays and retreats, and of course weddings.
The Yorkshire Wolds, North York Moors National Park and Yorkshire Coastline are all on the doorstep and ancient York is less than an hour away, so the location is a real draw for outdoors lovers.
There is a wide range of accommodation to suit everyone including cosy cabins, a romantic treehouse, a quirky summerhouse, luxurious self-catering studios and a pretty 3 bedroomed cottage.
The farm is decorated with steel farmyard sculptures of animals, both real and mythical.
If you ever visit Dale Farm you will be sure to experience a warm welcome from Jack the dog. The first time I pulled up in my car there was an almighty drumming on the side of my Volvo. I nervously opened the door to find Jack beaming at me and wagging his tail so vigorously it was pounding my wheel arch.
Weddings at Dale Farm
Dale Farm is the ideal location for a relaxed, informal, outdoors DIY wedding.
The Open Barn, situated in a courtyard, is the main venue for weddings. The barn accommodates up to 100 guests and can be made weatherproof by a marquee supplier (you will not need a full marquee).
The farm can accommodate up to 23 people across the cottage, studios and ‘glamping’ cabins. They also have a Summerhouse and a Treehouse that make great bridal suites.
Dale Farm is a ‘DIY’ venue. It is a blank canvas so you have complete freedom to choose your own suppliers, including catering, so your wedding will be truly unique and personal.
The venue is not licensed for civil ceremonies so you can't get married on site. You will need to go to a register office, licensed venue or church for that.
Venue and accommodation hire comes in at just over £5,000 so it suits a budget conscious couple.
Wedding photography at Dale Farm
Dale Farm is in a wonderful part of the world, with varied countryside within walking distance. The buildings in and around the farm are quirky and unique, with lots of nooks and crannies, colours and textures to explore.
There is some sparse woodland on the farm and some lawn areas around the cabins. A short walk to the main road offers farmer's fields in all directions which can make for some great portraits depending on the season.
If you want to go further afield, the beach is a short drive away and can be accessed at Hunmanby Gap. Filey Bay is simply stunning and offers 5 miles of award-winning beaches.
- An authentic laid back and relaxed vibe suiting a DIY, outdoorsy couple, Dale Farm is a bespoke wedding venue that encourages you to have your day your way.
- Situated in stunning countryside, with ample opportunity for photographs of big skies and varied terrain.
- Run by Liz and Paul, the farm has a real family feel unlike most corporate wedding venues.
- Dale Farm is not currently licensed for civil ceremonies, therefore you will need to take care of the ‘official bits’ elsewhere (i.e. a Register Office or Church).
- To get the most out of the venue and location you would need good weather. (although I could imagine an intimate winter wedding here could be quite special).
