An intimate winter wedding in Northumberland with Norma & Brian

Norma and Brian's intimate Northumberland wedding took place on a crisp day in early winter. The Sun Hotel was a new wedding venue to me, located at the foot of the hill upon which Warkworth Castle stands.

The interior of the Sun Hotel, which began as a 17th century coaching inn, is largely dark and opulent, with grand fireplaces, rich red wallpaper, busts and ancient armour. We utilised these backdrops for some formal portraits and group shots early in the day, and when night fell I used my flashes creatively to get across the energy and spontaneity of the dance floor.

Fortunately for me, the ceremony itself took place in the sun lounge conservatory which let in a lot of light, so we got a good range of photographs to reflect the day.

I hadn't realised before the wedding that Norma and Brian were heavily into jazz music, with Norma being a singer and Brian being a guitarist. The penny only dropped when the band arrived for the evening reception and Brian picked up a guitar to play. With lots of their friends and family into music too, it meant that the dance floor was more popular than you'd expect for an intimate wedding.

I love getting in amongst the dance floor action to try and reflect what it feels like to be celebrating a wedding, not just what it looks like.
