Newcastle wedding photographer
Newcastle upon Tyne is the biggest (and best!) city in the North East. It's where I live, where I grew up and where I photograph most of my weddings. For ease and clarity I've included weddings and venues from Newcastle, Gateshead and North Tyneside on this page.
Named after the castle built in 1080 by William the Conqueror's eldest son, the city has a rich history. It was an important centre for the wool trade in the 14th century and later became a major coal mining area (bringing coals to Newcastle...). The port developed in the 16th century and Newcastle became one of the world's largest ship building centres. Newcastle is home to many iconic buildings and events. St James Park is Newcastle United's stadium, the bridges over the Tyne are numerous and distinctive, and the great North Run attracts over 50,000 runners every year.
There are a wide and varied range of wedding venues in Newcastle. Of course there are numerous hotels in the city and they often have all inclusive 'off the shelf' wedding packages that make it easy for couples to arrange their day and stay on budget. The Vermont Hotel is a good example of this - a 1930's art deco inspired building reminiscent of a mini Empire State Building, complete with a Sky Terrace.
There are also wedding venues that draw upon the rich artistic and cultural history of the city. You can get married in the Laing Art Gallery, the Discovery Museum and the Sage Gateshead and the Baltic centre for contemporary art. You can even get away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre at a venue such as Jesmond Dene House or hit the beach at the Grand Hotel.
There are also modern and alternative wedding venues in Newcastle. As You Like It started this trend and is a great example of a modern, quirky, boutique wedding venue for discerning couples.
One of the benefits of getting married in Newcastle is that the transport links are excellent - everywhere outside the North East arrives in Newcastle first, whether it is by road, rail or air, and it's easy to get to from the surrounding regions.
Below you'll find a selection of weddings I've photographed in Newcastle, some pre-wedding and engagement shoots in the area, and my reviews of wedding venues in Newcastle, Gateshead and North Tyneside. I hope you find them useful!
