NEWCASTLE WEDDING VENUES

Newcastle upon Tyne is the biggest (and best!) city in the North East. It's where I live, where I grew up and where I photograph most of my weddings. For ease and clarity I've included weddings and venues from Newcastle, Gateshead and North Tyneside on this page.

Named after the castle built in 1080 by William the Conqueror's eldest son, Newcastle has a rich history. It was an important centre for the wool trade in the 14th century and later became a major coal mining area (bringing coals to Newcastle...). The port developed in the 16th century and Newcastle became one of the world's largest ship building centres. Newcastle is home to many iconic buildings and events. St James Park is Newcastle United's stadium in the heart of the city, the bridges over the Tyne are numerous and distinctive, and the great North Run attracts over 50,000 runners every year.

There are a wide and varied range of wedding venues in Newcastle. Of course there are numerous hotels in the city and they often have all inclusive 'off the shelf' wedding packages that make it easy for couples to arrange their day and stay on budget. The Vermont Hotel is a good example of this - a 1930's art deco inspired building reminiscent of a mini Empire State Building, complete with a Sky Terrace overlooking the city.

There are also wedding venues that draw upon the rich artistic and cultural history of the city. You can get married in the Laing Art Gallery, the Discovery Museum, the Sage Gateshead and the Baltic centre for contemporary art. You can even get away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre at a venue such as Jesmond Dene House or hit the beach at the Grand Hotel, Tynemouth.

There are also modern and alternative wedding venues in Newcastle. As You Like It started this trend and is a great example of a modern, quirky, boutique wedding venue for discerning couples.

One of the benefits of getting married in Newcastle is that the transport links are excellent - everyone coming to the North East usually arrives in Newcastle first, whether it is by road, rail or air, and it's easy to get to from the surrounding regions.

Below you'll find a selection of real weddings I've photographed in Newcastle. I hope you find them useful.

NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE WEDDINGS

Emma & Paul

A fun and colourful village wedding in Wylam

It’s impossible to really know what a wedding is going to be like before the day kicks off. You can get a feel from the couple and a sense of the style of wedding they’re planning and hoping for, but until the day it’s all speculation and ideas. On the day, though, it quickly became clear that this was going to be a kick ass wedding!

Beth & Lee

A wedding full of glitter at As You Like It

Beth & Lee's DIY, glitter infused, disco inspired, do-it-your-own-way-without-being-beholden-to-tradition Newcastle wedding was one of the best I've ever photographed.

It was also my first time at As You Like It and I hope it won't be my last.

Emma & Ian

A wedding in the heart of the city at the Vermont Hotel

You’ll not find two people more in love than Emma and Ian ❤️

Emma & Ian got married at the Vermont Hotel in the heart of Newcastle's bustling city centre. The building itself would fit right into New York's skyline; it's almost a mini Empire State Building with all it's 1930s art deco styling.

Danika & Sebastian

An intimate winter wedding at the Malmaison Quayside

Danika & Sebastian were married in Newcastle Register Office and then drove the short distance to the Malmaison on Newcastle Quayside for their reception. With only a ten minute drive from my door, weddings don't get any more local than this for me.

Hazel & Andy

A movie themed wedding at Brinkburn Street Brewery

“We’d had one of our earliest dates there, and it was at that very venue when were realised we were both serious about a future together. Maling Hall had never actually hosted a wedding ceremony before but as we were having a celebrant wedding, we could celebrate anywhere. The venue was absolutely brilliant, and couldn’t do enough for us.”

Angela & Dave

Fairy lights for a winter wedding at The Parlour Blagdon

“We wanted the wedding at The Parlour at Blagdon to feel comfortable, welcoming and real. No pretention or falseness. Just us and our closest family and friends.

Oh, and a shit load of fairy lights!” - Angela & Dave

Katy-Rose & Chris

A laid back winter wedding at the Malmaison Quayside

As I made my way home I reflected on what made this wedding feel so good.

It wasn't the venue (although that was great), it wasn't the details or the dress (both were perfect), and it wasn't the weather (it could have been better, but it could have been a whole lot worse).

No, it was just that Katy-Rose and Chris were so obviously in love with each other, made for each other, and that that love shone through into every aspect of their wedding.

Sophie & Daniel

An intimate winter wedding at The Grand Hotel, Tynemouth

The days leading up to Sophie and Daniel's intimate winter wedding were wet and grey, so I was pleasantly surprised to arrive at the Grand Hotel Newcastle and find it bathed in sunlight.

It was still bitingly cold, with the wind whipping in off the North Sea but it was dry and the light was good.

Rosie & Will

A homemade, relaxed wedding at Newcastle Register Office

Rosie and Will were married at Newcastle Register Office and had their reception at Heaton Community Centre, just a short walk from their home.

It was a homemade, laid-back wedding, with lots of thoughtful personal touches.
